Rapid Recovery & Outpatient Total Joint

Same-day outpatient joint replacement protocols designed to return patients to full function quickly.

Overview

Rapid recovery joint replacement is a modern approach designed to help patients move sooner, recover efficiently, and return home safely—often on the same day as surgery.

A key component is regional anesthesia, which can provide excellent pain control while minimizing the need for heavy general anesthesia and strong opioid medications. This approach may help patients feel more comfortable and alert shortly after surgery.

Modern surgical techniques, multimodal pain management, and individualized anesthesia protocols allow patients to begin walking and moving within hours of their procedure. Early mobility is an important part of recovery and helps patients regain confidence and function quickly.

Outpatient Surgery

For appropriately selected patients, hip and knee replacements can be performed as outpatient procedures in a specialized surgical center, allowing patients to recover in the comfort of their own home rather than spending the night in a hospital.

Dr. Assini and his team have been performing outpatient surgery for over a decade. Over 85% of his total joint patients will leave the hospital the same day as their surgery.

Before & After Surgery

Before surgery, patients receive detailed education and preparation so they understand what to expect and have the necessary support at home. After surgery, a structured recovery plan focuses on pain control, mobility, exercises, and gradual return to normal activities.

The goal of rapid recovery joint replacement is simple: less time in the medical system, earlier mobility, effective pain control, and a faster return to the activities that matter most.
