Recovery Timeline

One of Dr. Assini's main focuses is on rapid recovery total joint replacement, which strives to get patients back to full function as quickly as possible. Below is a general timeline — your recovery plan will be individualized.

  1. Day of Surgery

    Surgery & First Steps

Many patients are able to stand and take their first steps within hours of surgery. Same-day discharge is common for appropriate candidates.

  2. Week 1

    Early Recovery

Focus on wound care, pain management, and gentle mobility exercises. Physical therapy begins. Most patients can manage basic daily activities with assistive devices.

  3. Weeks 2–4

    Building Strength

Continued physical therapy with increasing range of motion and strengthening exercises. Many patients transition off assistive devices during this period.

  4. Weeks 4–8

    Returning to Activities

Most patients return to light daily activities and may begin driving (when cleared by Dr. Assini). Continued PT focuses on strength and endurance.

  5. Weeks 8–12

    Full Recovery

Most patients achieve significant improvement in pain and function. Return to recreational activities as cleared. Follow-up with Dr. Assini to assess progress.
